Insoles and Orthotics
Insoles and Orthotics
Orthotics or insoles are used as part of our approach to helping a patient to manage foot, ankle, or lower limb pain. As part of our foot pain assessment, consideration will be given to whether you may need an orthotic to offload and reduce stress to injured tissues, by redistributing pressure to help reduce strain on an injured area of the foot. Likewise, we may need to improve the functionality of your feet or lower limb and a custom orthotic or insole can aid with this.
We study the function of your feet while you are standing, walking, or moving along with conducting a thorough foot pain assessment, scan of your feet, and conduct a gait analysis prior to recommending any orthoses or insoles. They are not recommended for all our patients – we only prescribe them if we feel they are necessary. The assessment is conducted by our foot pain expert, Sean Savage.
Once we are satisfied that the orthotic will help to support your lower limb, reduce your foot pain or aid you in the prevention of future foot problems, we design the orthotic to best meet your needs. Sometimes we may decide that a simple, off the shelf insole is of benefit to you, and this will be discussed with you during your appointment.
Advice will also be given in terms of footwear, and in terms of the fitting and ‘breaking in’ your orthotic devices. We also offer a follow up service to ensure that the orthotic is meeting your needs, or if any other adjustments are needed.
Our custom orthotics are made here in Ireland. We use advanced 3D scanning to ensure a right fit with your feet and the highest quality of craftmanship and materials are used in their manufacture. Patients that need orthotic support vary from highly trained athletes to patients with a variety of medical conditions and issues that require support and everyday comfort. You don’t have to be an
athlete to wear an orthotic, but you might feel like running a marathon if we help you eliminate your pain!
